Magic with Decoupage Glue
Decoupage glue is water-based and is used for sticking cut-out figures and shapes onto:
- wood,
- glass,
- plastic,
- porcelain,
- ceramics,
- metal,
- textiles.
It differs from other types of glue because it is transparent once it dries. This is why it’s used for creating and decorating various art projects.
The glue for decoupage is also suitable for gluing on transparent surfaces since it is colorless. It is applied with a soft synthetic brush.
Decoupage is an applied art where motifs and images are cut from different materials and glued onto the object.
Most often, the elements are cut from paper, napkins, textiles, and leather. This technique is used for creating collages, paper applications, and for decorating furniture, panels, souvenirs, cups, plates, vases, candles, and home décor items.

Application
Decoupage on Wood
Decoupage on wood is done with a napkin, ornamented textiles, or leather. This way, you can create interesting jewelry boxes, chests, and storage boxes for clothes, makeup, and spices.
To do this, you’ll need - wooden boxes, napkins with beautiful motifs, decoupage glue, a soft brush, scissors, a container of water, a glue container, wood or water-based varnish.
You can also get watercolors and acrylic paints for retouching, as well as additional decorations - stones, glitter, elements from wood, metal, or plastic, ribbons, lace, artificial flowers, etc. If the item you are decorating is darker, lighten it with white acrylic paint beforehand.
When choosing napkins, it’s good to pick those with larger motifs in the center. Think about which parts you want on the box and how you will arrange them. Once you have a clear concept for the design, proceed with gluing.
Start with the lid, placing the largest element there. Carefully place it and apply glue from the center towards the edges of the napkin. Smooth out any air bubbles with your fingers.
On untreated wood, fine decoration will stick immediately, and any attempt to reposition or adjust it will tear the napkin.
Then, continue decorating the other sides of the box, maintaining the same working method. The selection of napkins for decoupage is vast. There are models with unique landscapes - winter, autumn, Christmas, festive, with flowers, animals, and many others.
Besides napkins, you can create original boxes using fabrics with interesting motifs or leather, cutting out applications of your choice.
Decoupage glue is compatible with all listed materials. It dries quickly, making the entire process easier. The rest is up to your imagination - choose what you want to make and how you want your box to look.
